Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 14th International Conference of the Spanish Association for Irish Studies (AEDEI) that will take place from 28th to 30th of May 2015 in Granada, Spain, with the theme of “Discourses of Inclusion and Marginalisation: Minority, Dissident and Mainstream Irish Identities”.
This conference is a new edition of the AEDEI meetings, which have been celebrated periodically since 2001 (Burgos), with further past meetings held in Barcelona (2002), Almería (2003), Málaga (2004), Tarragona (2005), Valladolid (2006), A Coruña (2008), Alcalá de Henares (2009), Tenerif (2010), Oviedo (2011), Huelva (2012), Cáceres (2013) and Deusto (2014). AEDEI has been consolidated through these last 14 years, during which time interest in Irish Studies in Spain has been rising in many different fields, ranging from literary and cultural studies, to media and film studies, critical theory, history, linguistics and sociology, among others.
The meeting in Granada promises to be stimulating and fruitful. The conference will offer researchers an opportunity to listen to prestigious Irish writers, musicians, artists and academics, and to exchange ideas in an enriching cross-cultural context. Granada, as a crucible of civilizations, displays in its architectural and archaeological heritage the richness of transfers and connections between Arabic, Jewish and Christian influences. This conference, therefore, offers the opportunity to enjoy several days of stimulating discussions in the congenial atmosphere of a beautiful city that makes of diversity its intrinsic feature.
We are all looking forward to welcoming you in Granada. With kind regards,
Pilar Villar Argáiz (on behalf of the Organizing Committee)
